Returning to Thailand: A Journey Through Home, Inspiration & Craft
Thailand has always been a place that tugs at my heartstrings. I was born in Bangkok, and for much of my life, it has been a destination I return to, both physically and emotionally. It’s where my earliest memories of vibrant markets, aromatic street food, and moments with my mother are woven into the very fabric of who I am.
But as time passed and my grandparents left this world, our family visits became less frequent, and the sense of home here started to feel more distant. Now, after seven years away, I’ve finally come back, not only to revisit the familiar but to see Thailand with fresh eyes, seeking new inspiration, reconnecting with the craftsmanship, and bringing a piece of this journey back into Tajmi.
Packing a Piece of Tajmi
Even with my tiny suitcase, I couldn’t resist bringing along a few of my favourite Tajmi pieces. Seeing them in this new setting reaffirmed what I love about timeless design, how it seamlessly adapts to any space and place.
Striped Bath Robe – This lightweight, natural fabric has felt completely at home even in Thailand’s tropical heat.
Bronze Spoon – Yes, I was that person who packed their own tiny spoon! This beautifully detailed piece has added depth and flair to every cup of tea.
Abbas Towel – These Turkish towels have been perfect for sun-drenched beach days and lazy afternoons by the pool, bringing a touch of pattern to every serene moment.
Finding Inspiration in Every Corner
Beyond nostalgia, this trip has been a creative source for me. With my eyes wide open, I’ve been taking in all the details; the colours, textures, and traditions that might very well shape future Tajmi collections.
Colour Palettes – Earthy brown tones, soft rice paper whites, and the striking golds of Thai temple architecture have sparked ideas for new designs.
Textures & Materials – Handwoven silks, raw stone surfaces, and rusted metals are speaking to me, reminding me of the beauty in imperfection and heritage.
Local Artisans – I’ve had the privilege of meeting Thai artisans and small business owners whose dedication to their craft is awe-inspiring. From ceramicists to textile weavers, their slow, thoughtful approach to creation aligns perfectly with what Tajmi stands for. The possibility of new collaborations that celebrate these family-run traditions excites me beyond words.
Why This Journey Matters
Travel always brings me back to the heart of why I started Tajmi: to inspire curiosity, to celebrate cultural heritage, and to surround ourselves with meaningful, well crafted pieces. Every object tells a story, and I hope to bring some of these stories back to you through future collections and collaborations.
I’ll be sharing more from this journey: behind-the-scenes moments, recommendations, and deeper insights into the artistry I’m discovering—so stay tuned for more from Thailand!
